All third graders will be using Xtramath to track student’s progress with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Addition and subtraction should have been mastered in second grade, while multiplication and division will be the focus of third grade. If the addition/subtraction facts are not met by November, your child will participate in an intervention fact fluency group. This information will be used to track fluency and accuracy to report back to the district.

Your child should be spending 5 minutes per night on Xtramath. If you do not have access to a computer, please let me know and I will send home flashcards.

Today you received your child’s first addition and subtraction fact fluency assessment. The goal for this time of year was 23. If your child scored less than 23, we will be focusing on basic facts.

I sent home information regarding a math site ( http://xtramath.org/) that offers additional practice of basic math facts. This is a free site that allows your child to progressively practice addition, subtraction and once these are mastered multiplication facts.  It is extremely important that we review these daily and increase accuracy/speed in the process.  I would love it if they could become more rote with basic addition & subtraction facts. It would be GREAT if your child could get on this site for a quick review three times per week. I will be receiving a progress report weekly.
