Spelling Unit 3

Posted on

Spelling: We started our spelling lessons today.  Your child will receive a new set of 10 words every Monday and be tested on those words (plus five additional words that follow the same pattern) on Friday of each week. Your child will be given a pre-test every Monday to determine if your child will receive the regular spelling list or the challenge list. Today your child brought home either a pink or red paper with the words to practice at home.

Please let me know if you have any questions concerning this program. Our goal is to make our third graders better spellers, so it is always nice to hear if you see a difference at home too.

This week the students will be focusing on short /a/ & long /a/ (spelled /a/ with consonant /e/). We will have a spelling test on Friday and will be completing activities in class all week to focus on these words.  The pretest today determined which list your child brought home. Here are the words for the week:

Regular List: make, came, hand, face, skate, whale, ask, what*, scale, save

Challenge List: became, crater, rotate, blazer, inflate, replace, phrase, female, escape, exhale

*oddball (doesn’t follow pattern)
