Sound Unit

The children completed a variety of science experiments for our sound unit. This was a loud unit for the classrooms that were close to ours.  We were able to make horns and see how pitch changes with the length of the straw. We have been reviewing  the specific vocabulary terms for this unit. Your child should have brought home flashcards to practice last week. Our test will be on Thursday, January 12th.  An online quiz, matching game or printable flashcards can be viewed by clicking on the picture below:

  1. When the drum is tighter it will make a higher pitch noise when it is looser it will make a lower noise. When the guitar string is shorter it will make a higher noise than when the string is longer. When the bottle is blown with more water it becomes a higher pitch than when it is less full.

  2. The matching game was fun I noticed that the things you have to match is our flash cards on sound.

  3. I got 8 out of 10 correct on the quiz. One thing I learned is that the faster the instrument vibrates the higher the pitch. I never knew that if you tighten the drum it will make a higher pitch!
