Reading Update
Posted onWe have started our Book in a Series Unit. Our expectation is that each group will finish one chapter book within a week. The students did an excellent job determining how many pages that they would need to read each day to accomplish this goal. If your child cannot complete the assigned reading during our reading time, it will be homework. Please make sure that the book is returned the next day.
Study Island Homework
Posted onI have an assignment posted on Study Island. The students have until Sunday night to complete it. It focuses on setting which will be a nice review of our current lessons.
Outdoor Discovery Field Trip
Posted onOur class will be traveling to the Outdoor Discovery Center on January 20th to study winter ecology by snowshoe! We are very excited to go on this field trip. Our classes will be able to explore a natural area in winter on snowshoes with a naturalist. We will be able to experience habitats, adaptations, and predator and prey relationships.
Your child will need all of their warmest clothing (mittens, hats, snow pants, and snow boots along with a lunch from home. We will be outside for the entire morning, so PLEASE DRESS WARM!!
If you are interested in chaperoning, we can take five chaperones per class for free, but unfortunately you will need to drive. We will randomly choose five parents for each class to attend for free. If you are not chosen, you are welcome to join us, but will need to pay the $4.50 admission. We will leave the school at 9:00 and will depart about 1:00. Please email me if you would like to come.
Please send $1.50 to school with your child by Thursday, January 13th.

Fact Fluency and Reading Homework
Posted onI am not sending home a weekly log, but I will checking Xtramath or Mathfactspro to verify practice times (for their Michibucks). Because of 2nd grade typing, the students will not be practicing their facts at school on the computers for the next three weeks. Please continue to have them practice at home at least 5 times weekly.
Also, the expectation is 20 minutes of reading time 5 times weekly at home. If they complete a Study Island reading lesson, this counts towards the 20 minutes.
PE Cares & Bowling Celebration

Happy 2016! We are going bowling Thursday, January 7th. We will leave at 12:30 and return around 2:30. You might want to send in an extra pair of socks because we have recess just before lunch therefore their socks may be wet.
Also,
Brayden H.’s mom & stepdad (the owners of Pizzeria Grande’) have offered to treat us to pizza on Thursday for lunch. Please send in an extra snack and drink to have with the pizza lunch. We will eat lunch before we leave.
