Just a reminder that our Halloween party is tomorrow at 1:00-1:45. The children will change into their costumes after lunch and then we will parade through the 3rd grade classrooms to see their friends’ costumes. We are thankful to Mrs. Doorenbos for planning it. Also thanks for volunteering to help and sending supplies. We appreciate it!

Coin Wars
Posted on
The competition is on this year! Let’s see which Michigan team has the biggest fans at Georgetown prior to their showdown in Lansing on November 2nd, the Saturday before we kick off our Book Fair.
This is the fun part, if MSU fans bring in more coins Mr. Kooiker will wear MSU colors and if U of M fans bring in more coins Mr. Bowen will wear U of M colors on Wednesday, October 30th for Spirit Day! Which team will it be? Help us decide with your loose change!
Along with supporting your team your loose change will help us purchase book for classroom libraries. This helps get more kids reading and those kids reading more.
The All for Books money we collect also helps readers beyond our school and community. Scholastic Book Fairs matches monetary donations with a donation of up to one million books to the Kids In Need Foundation and Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc.
Please send in your donation prior to October 29th. Baggies and book slips will be sent home the week of October 21st. We’ll be weighing the coins at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, October 29th to determine the winner!
Please join us on October 30th and wear your favorite team’s apparel.
Your act of kindness helps to bring more knowledge, imagination, and love for reading into the lives of our students.
Thank you! Mrs. Havens, Chair of Book Fair and Georgetown Staff

Typing practice
Posted onIf you have computer access at home, we have recommended a couple of websites for your child to practice their typing skills on. Some of these sites can easily be located by going to the Hudsonville Public School Website homepage. Look for the link that reads Elementary Web Links
- Dance Mat Typing http://www.bbc.co.uk/
schools/typing/ - Typing Practice (lessons, games, and typing tests)http://www.
freetypinggame.net ) - All the Right Type (student’s school username and password is needed)
http://www.atrtonline.com/
It is very important that your child is using the correct fingering when they practice their typing so as not to fall into a bad habit of using the incorrect fingers.
Hudsonville Public Schools has set the following goals in keyboarding for your elementary child:
Fifth Grade has a typing goal of 20 words per minute by the end of the school year.
Fourth Grade has a typing goal of 15 words per minute by the end of the school year.
Third Grade has a typing goal of 10 words per minute by the end of the school year.
Math Groups
Posted onAs a district and a school, our goal is to meet the learning needs of ALL students. We follow a curriculum in reading and writing that allows each student to read and write at their individual learning level. We are doing the same instruction pattern in the content area of mathematics.
Using a set of criteria based on the 3rd grade level, we will be pretesting prior to each unit to determine the best placement for your child. Students were identified for one of three groups: ON GRADE LEVEL (Just Right), SUPPORT MATH (additional support needed for some grade level concepts), or EXTENSION MATH (ability for more challenging math, a desire to work on more advanced mathematics, and display appropriate work habits in the classroom).
Animal Adaptations
Posted onOur Animal Adaptation and classification test will be on Tuesday next week. A review sheet when home this past Tuesday. If your child misplaced it, I have included it right here for you to download: vertebrates . I have also included an adaptation video by Study Jams as a review. Please click on the picture below to watch the video and even test yourself in the end.
If you would like to play an adaptation game, you can click on the picture below. Let me know if you make it on the leader board.
