Social Studies
Posted onWe have taken a break from science for the Geography Unit. Mrs. Flory will be teaching this unit to the children and the children are excited for the new adventure. Once this unit is complete (in about one month), the children will begin science again.
The MEAP is done!
Posted onThe children worked diligently on the MEAP. I was very impressed with the time that they took to ensure accuracy. We are thrilled to have our normal routine tomorrow!
Math Update
Posted onWe have been solving addition and subtraction word problems involving a total and two partners. Our test will be on Thursday.
- If one of the partners is unknown, it can be found by subtracting the known partner from the total or by counting on from the known partner to the total.
- If the total is unknown, it can be found by adding the partners.
Math Mountains are used to show a total and two partners. Students can use the Math Mountain to write an equation and then solve the equation to find the unknown.
*Fact fluency will be crucial for your child! We will be starting multiplication next week. If your child has not mastered addition and subtraction facts, this unit is going to be difficult. I will be sending home information on xtramath.com soon, as well as, information regarding known/unknown facts. If you are interested in helping with fact fluency, please let me know.
Adaptation Video
Posted onThe children asked if I would put this adaptation video on our blog for a quick review of adaptations. Remember our test is tomorrow. The hardest portion is the classification section and a review sheet was sent home earlier this week.
Watch Adaptation on PBS. See more from NatureWorks.
Science Test on Friday
Posted onYour child brought home a review sheet for the science test on Friday. There will be other information on the test regarding animal adaptations but in the past children tend to struggle with the classification portion. If by chance your child has misplaced it, here is a copy of the information. Vertebrates Classification
