Popcans for Books

My class has truly inspired me with the points they have earned past their reading counts goals. Many have surpassed 50 and some are even close or past 100 points. They have been asking to read during free time. During our district meeting on Friday when we discussed intervention plans for reading and looked at the data which indicated the decline in skills during the summer.

I talked this over with my lovely Third Graders and we would like to have an ongoing school wide pop can drive to collect money to buy books. We would then make book baggies for children at Georgetown (readers that struggle either with interest, skills or financially) to read over the summer. We would also like to donate our gently used books that we have “grown out of” to the younger grades. During this project we will be gathering data, making wishlists and in the end purchasing books so please send in your empty cans.
